Curiosity and observation are core elements of science. TWC is an incredible outdoor classroom where homeschool students can explore their environment, conduct hands-on investigations, and follow their curiosity with support from our naturalists and their peers. This program aims to foster inquiry skills, creativity, and community-building through nature exploration and fun!
Lichen Exploration
Lichens are commonly found in many places, making them easy to overlook. However, looking at lichen through a hand lens can be like looking at life-forms from an alien planet! With this new perspective, we’ll delve into the world of lichens, learning to identify different types, reflecting on how they’re formed through a symbiotic relationship between two organisms, and creating some art inspired by their remarkable patterns and structures.
Students will:
- Become curious about lichens and inspired to look more closely at the world around them!
- Investigate symbiotic relationships.
- Observe patterns of how different lichen species grow and get creative.
Open to ages 9 and up, this program has limited capacity. All active participants must register.
