Join us for an evening of Frog Monitoring! One of the least intrusive and best ways to monitor frogs is by tuning into their calls, and April is prime time to do just that. We’ll go over how to tell different calls apart and practice identifying some of Ohio’s most common frog sounds.
During the program, we’ll visit two emergent wetlands, and if we have time, we’ll swing by a wooded wetland to compare frog species in different habitats. You’ll get a feel for how diverse these little amphibians can be depending on where they’re hanging out.
We’re hopeful that the weather will make for a comfortable, slightly muddy, night hike and great conditions for frogs to sing their hearts out—and for us to learn what those songs actually mean!
Registration required.
This program is recommended for ages 12 years old and up since we will be around water. Afterwards we’ll enjoy looking through The Wilderness Center’s large telescopes, as long as weather permits. It’ll be a hoppin’ good time!
Bring your red-light flashlight – white lights are not allowed on the trails at night. Don’t have a red-light flashlight? Bring your flashlight and we can make it red for you. Hiking boots and weather appropriate attire are recommended.
