Join us for a unique opportunity to witness a prescribed prairie burn in action at The Wilderness Center. Fire plays a vital role in maintaining healthy prairie ecosystems, helping to restore native plants, improve wildlife habitat, and renew the landscape.

Visitors will have the chance to observe trained staff and our local fire department as they safely conduct a controlled burn on our Astronomy Prairie at our HQ Preserve. Staff will have a behind-the-scenes look at this important land management practice. Following the burn, guests are invited to stay for a casual Q&A with TWC staff and members of the local fire department. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, learn more about prairie restoration, and better understand how fire supports the health of our natural spaces.

Whether you are a longtime supporter or simply curious about conservation in action, we welcome you to join us for this engaging and educational experience.

As the burn is incredibly weather dependent, we do ask you to register online so that in the event that the fire has to be canceled, TWC can easily notify you. For attendees, we ask that you meet in the lobby of the Nature Center building no later than 10:30am on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. You will then be guided by TWC Staff to our safe viewing area. Feel free to bring a folding chair if you would like! Call the TWC offices with any questions at (330)359-5235.
