Let’s get spooky this Halloween—with some trees! Along the banks of Sugar Creek, we’ll plant a diverse mix of native trees and shrubs to strengthen the riparian buffer—a natural zone that protects the creek and its wildlife. These plantings will stabilize the upper bank, filter surface runoff before it reaches the water, and provide cooling shade that benefits fish and other aquatic life.
By enhancing the riparian corridor, we improve habitat for birds, pollinators, and mammals while increasing the stream’s resilience to erosion and flooding. This project is a vital link in the ongoing effort to restore and protect the entire watershed—no tricks, just treats for the environment.
All tools and plants will be provided. Wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for work along uneven, sometimes muddy terrain.
