Fall Stewardship Challenge Volunteer: Beaver Dam Analog Installation

Help bring back the natural engineering power of beavers—without the beavers. In this hands-on restoration project, we’ll install a Beaver Dam Analog (BDA) downstream of the Fox Creek culvert. This simple, low-tech structure mimics a natural beaver dam, slowing water, raising stream levels, and reconnecting upstream and downstream habitats.

By restoring natural flow patterns, BDAs open migration pathways for fish and other aquatic life, improve water quality, and build resilience against drought and flooding. You’ll learn how this innovative technique is reshaping stream restoration across the country—and be part of making it happen right here.

All tools, materials, and guidance will be provided. Wear sturdy boots and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy—you’ll be working in and around the creek.
