Planetarium Show: Phantom of the Universe
Come along as we follow the exciting hunt for dark matter. Learn about Fritz Zwicky, who first recognized hints of its existence and coined the term “dark matter,” and how astronomer Vera Rubin’s observations of the Andromeda Galaxy provided evidence. We will travel nearly a mile deep to visit the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth, housed in a former gold mine in South Dakota. From here, we will journey through space and time to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. We’ll travel alongside speeding particles before they collide in stunning explosions of light and sound, while learning how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the elusive dark matter particle. A “Tonight’s Sky” program showing a few of the seasonal constellations and planets currently in the night sky will follow the fulldome show.
