Girl Scout troops participate in life science, earth science, space science, and environmental issues programs. Troops often participate in service projects. We are also happy to work with individual girls working toward Silver or Gold Awards.
Fee is $3/child/program for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and Seniors; $1/child/program for Daisies. No charge for leaders or other accompanying adults. Min. $30/program; $30 deposit required. Additional $15 for off-hours visits. Sorry, no Sun. or Mon. programs. To make a reservation, call the Education Department at 330-359-5235.
We'll go on a nature walk, watch birds at our feeders, see a planetarium show, or design a program to fit your interests. Makes a great family outing! Call us to plan your special visit.
Earth and
Sky Try-It
Look down! Look up! Take a walk to discover creatures of the soil
and of the air. Find soil erosion. Make a cloud picture or try
Sun experiments. Available Apr.-Oct., when the ground is not frozen.
1 1/4 hrs. Completes the Try-It.
Space Explorer
Try-It
Try lots of space activities-go stargazing in our Planetarium,
see why the Moon has phases, and visit a sundial. Make and launch
your own rocket! 1 hr. To complete the Try-It, do requirement
# 3 or 5.
Watching
Wildlife Try-It
Take a walk on the wild side! Learn how animals build their homes,
communicate, and gather food. Hike to the woods, then take a close-up
look at earthworms or ants. 1 hr. Completes the Try-It.
Rocks Rock
Badge
Begin a rock collection! Hike to observe fossils, touch remains
of a glacier, and explore a natural spring. Learn about the effects
of weathering on land and what soil is made of. Bring an egg carton
for each Girl Scout. 2 hrs. Completes the badge.
Sky Search
Badge
Make a star map and use it to find constellations and the North
Star in our Planetarium. We'll navigate the sky, locate planets,
learn about the importance of the North Star, and hear ancient
star stories. Visit the telescopes in our Observatory. 1 1/4 hrs.
To complete the badge, finish #4, or do # 7, 8, 9, or 10.
All About
Birds Interest Project
Use a field guide and recorded sounds to observe, identify, and
make notes about local birds. Compare and use binoculars. Participate
in TWC's bird banding study.
The first visit completes 2 Skill Builder and 2 Technology requirements.
You may also arrange a second visit to complete 1 Service Project
and 1 Career Exploration. 21/2 hrs./visit. To complete the Interest
Project, do one more activity.
