Cub and Boy Scouts participate in life science, earth science, space science, and environmental issues programs. Units often participate in service projects. We are also happy to work with individual Scouts working toward their Eagle Award.

Outdoor Adventure
Elective
Complete this homework with your
den before you come: talk about the types of things you might
see at The Wilderness Center (TWC) and plan and pack your picnic
meal. At TWC your family and den will go on a guided nature walk
to learn about the plants and animals that live here. After your
hike, enjoy your meal at one of the picnic shelters. With homework
completes elective 18a, b, partial f, and g. Outdoor, 1 hour hike.
Wolf fee is $1.00/child, min. $15.00/visit; no charge for leaders and other accompanying adults; additional $15 for off-hours visits. $15 deposit required.
Webelos
Naturalist
Activity Badge
Learn about the plants and animals
that live at TWC. Scouts will hike to observe wildlife, learn
about poisonous plants and animals, and find examples of food
chains. Completes Naturalist Badge 3,6,7,8. Outdoor, 1.25 hours
Geologist
Activity Badge
Learn about rocks and minerals
and how they are used in our everyday lives. Identify minerals
and begin a collection of geologic specimens. Each scout should
bring an egg carton for collection. Completes Geologist Badge
1,2,3,4,6. Indoor, 1.5 hours.
Forester
Activity Badge
Take a walk in the forest! Scouts
will hike the trails of TWC with a guide to identify and discuss
the trees and plants of the forest. Learn about forest layers
and the plants that live in them. Completes part of the Forester
Activity Badge 3, 4, & 6.
Outdoor, 1 hour.
Fees:
Bear and Webelos Cub Scout fee
is $3/child/program; no charge for leaders and other accompanying
adults; additional $15 for off-hours visits. Min. $30/visit; $30
deposit required. Sorry, no Sunday or Monday programs.
Bird
Study Merit Badge
Participate in the Christmas Bird
Count conducted in December. Contact TWC for date.
Astronomy
Merit Badge
Go to a planetarium show or Star
Watch. Star Watches are on the first Friday night of each month
(cancelled if cloudy). Public planetarium shows conducted at different
times each month. Contact TWC for dates and times.
Forestry
Merit Badge
Scout Troops should come as a
group to earn a Forestry Merit Badge. The program takes about
five hours. It's available May to September and must be arranged
at month advance. In this program, the scouts will:
· receive a PowerPoint presentation on Forestry
· go outdoors for field learning on a forested
Wilderness Center trail
· collect leaves for later identification
· receive a handout which they may use to complete
an essay
· receive Tree Identification Bandana to take home
· participate in a short service project related
to forestry or habitat restoration
